“When you work on a painting for so long, things happen, such as a change of year or you become so immersed in the cityscape that at some point the canvas is no longer a canvas. You then paint directly on asphalt and could sit down on the wonderfully long wooden bench from time to time to take a little break. From there you'd have a better view to guess about what the serenade player is thinking about, so beautifully illuminated by the sunlight.
However, it all started with the oversized shadow of the roof of the former waiting room at Paradeplatz. I find it fascinating: an island between the floor and the "ceiling" that cools travellers down in summer, without any pillars. The architects (does anybody know their name?) also left their mark at Bellevue and Central. I've had my eye on these two islands for a long time, but for the moment I am just waiting for the right light.”
